What is Hinduism?
Hindu is the most popular religion in the subcontinent India. This religion believes in many gods, karma, and reincarnation. Hindu followers believe that everyone internally possesses a atman, a soul like quality. The purpose of life is to match the Brahman, or supreme soul. (Banerji, S. C. (1992), written at Delhi, Tantra in Bengal)
Adult Stem Cells
Hindu believers support adult stem cell research because they believe life begins at conception. Because they believe life begins at conception they feel adult stem cell research is the best path to fallow regarding stem cell research because it doesn’t harm any life forms and it offers same potential as embryonic stem cells. Embryonic Stem Cells
The Singapore Hindu Endowment Board in their written response on this issue for the Singapore Bioethics Advisory Committee recently offered a typically ambiguous statement. "There is no non-acceptance to the use of these [stem] cells to protect human life and to advance life by curing disease, " they said. Later they added: "Killing a fetus is a sinful act." They consider life to begin at conception, and because killing a fetus is a sinful act in their eyes they do not support the creation of embryonic stem cells (Watanabe, Teresa (2001). “North America - United States - Miscellaneous – Cloning”)
Cord Blood Stem Cells
The Singapore Hindu Endowment Board on the other hand applauds Cord Blood Stem Cell Research for finding a morally acceptable alternative to Embryonic Stem Cells, even though they have proven to be significantly less effective. ( Watanabe, Teresa (2001). “North America - United States - Miscellaneous – Cloning”)
